The Grand Wazoo by Frank Zappa free essay sample

The guy who embodies the term progressive rock to its fullest extent makes his debut on my album reviews with his last album. Frank Zappa has a sense of humor in his music it seems, from the way his album covers look to the always changing music that somehow, doesnt confuse you with your small brains, at least when compared to him. The Grand Wazoo is no exception, in fact, it sounds to me like one giant carnival if jazz and classic prog. He loves his wackiness and isnt afraid to show it off to the people of his fanbase. Only five tracks and about 35 minutes but with one 13 minute epic right at the beginning. What may you think of that? A downside or a benefit? For me, the length of the album is a but of both because while I could listen to it in a breeze, I feel like I want more after this but dont worry, I have more to listen to and review after this so sit down and be patient. The Human Resource department at Walmart uses the strategy of fitting the employee to the best suitable job to fit the associates cognitive ability, and interests. (Chuck Russell, 2003). Its very important that they hire the best suited person for the job as mistakes can cost large sums of money! According to Dr. Pierre Mornell, if you make a mistake in hiring, and recognize and fix the mistake within six months, the cost of replacing that employee is two and one-half times the persons annual salary. Training and development doesnt stop when the associate is hired, it isnt a one time thing, it continues on during the career of the associate, its meant to improve and empower the employee during his service at Walmart. Employees are told the history about the making of Walmart, and shows the roles and responsibilities of the employee, and those of support staff. After the initial orientation every department has its own training to strengthen the individual strengths, and chart career paths. All these initiatives are aimed at making employees stay within the organization more favorable. This empowers the employees and gives them the incentive to remain within the company. (Sullivan and Zaino, 2005). Walmart offers many training and development opportunities.It isnt unusual for a company to train an employee upon hiring, and nevr retrain, or continue to train an employee; but that isnt the case at Walmart. Walmart considers training as part of their regular work environment, this company invests a lot of time in maintaing a ongoing training program for employees. The purpose of the continuous training is to assist associates in maintaining, and or obtaining the needed skills to prepare for climbing the corporate ladder. Walmart likes to hire from within the company, as they like people already educated in their corporate culture. Leaders Out in Front is what Walmart calls the program that places the associate in charge of their own portfolio. This program also places the training in the first line of contact with the associates, the Assistant managers, Market manager, Store managers, and Co-managers, it is believed in the Walmart culture that associates having training with the first line of contact they are continuously training, and strengthening their skills. In 2007, Walmart started a program called Stores of Learning. In this program they use virtual classrooms to show chosen employees about the most effective methods of service delivery. Training and development isnt a only new employee training, its an ongoing event at Walmart. Its a very important part of an associates life (Career Development, 2010). Walmart uses skill assessments to determine, and improve their employee labor, and knowledge of their job skills. The company has instituted a program known as the Associate Investment model where supervisors evaluate employee competencies. This methods of employee assessment is particularly accurate owing to the fact that it allows the assessment of the evaluation process. This means that in case evaluation was done poorly, the company can detect it and makes their employees more prepared for future eventualities. (King, 2006) The company vigorously trains the employees, this helps Walmart to know that the employee is well trained in his job function and knows all the components of his job. Part one of the process is called on boarding. Since the employee must know his job, and all job functions, this can also be called the information phase. The next step is called the fundamental track phase. During this phase the employee is expected to know and understand the responsibilities associated within the scope of his job. Walmart hopes that this information helps the employee to better understand the function of his job and well as build a foundation from which to grow. The third phase of the program is called advanced track phase. In this area employees are taught how to plan their careers. For Walmart this is the portion of the training that guarantees that employees are aware, and knowledgeable in all the steps needed to prepare them for them to get to become promotable, and, or transferable to different positions within the company. Associates are urged to assess their own skills, and opportunities within Walmart,and to guage if they are tracking with the needed job criteria. The above program instructs employees on resume writing, interviewing skills, career planning, and being pro-active in seeking job opportunities within the company. Sam Walton liked to promote people within the Walmart family before seeking outside candidate, and today the same idea still functions within the Walmart culture, promote from within! The training, available through the Human Resource Department is meant to have a readily available pool of talent from the employees. Walmarts executives believe that while other retailers outsource a large part of their production process, Walmart wants to keep talent from within their company to fill vacancies as they arise. The fact that the company has leadership programs for their managers, supervisors, and line staff is proof that they are commited to assisting the employee develop, grow, and remain productive within the Walmart family. The companys Vice presidents feel that the people who have paid their dues, done the job, and prepared should be the ones getting the promotions within the company (Marquez, 2005). It is estimated that the human resource department at Walmart spends a large amount of time in the training, and maintaining, as well as preparing employees to embrace the best opportunity that comes their way. The distribution centers handle a total of about 6,500 tractors with 55,000 trailers. These vehicles moved more than 5.5 billion cases of merchandise last year. There are also specific distribution centers for Sams clubs as well for groceries, jewelry, pharmaceuticals. The Walmart online also have their own distribution centers. They are all located within a 250 mile radius of the stores they service, and most are open 24/7. George C. Marshall :: essays research papers

	George C. Marshall was born on December 31, 1880, in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 1901 and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. During World War I he was stationed in France and won acclaim for his direction of the Meuse-Argonne offensive. Before the offensive, Marshall was responsible for; the withdrawal of 200,000 men, and replacing them with 600,000 American soldiers, making sure that there were hospitals to treat the sick and wounded, moving more than 3,000 cannons and 40,000 tons of ammunition, all the while hiding these movements from the Germans by moving only at night. 	After World War I he was a high-level aide to General John J. Pershing. Prior to the outbreak of World War II he progressed steadily from assistant chief-of-staff of the U.S. Army (July, 1938) to deputy chief of staff (October, 1938), to chief of staff the following year. In 1944, Marshall was promoted to General of the Army. He spent a year in China in 1945-46 as President Truman's representative, attempting to bring about a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the nationalists and the communists. 	As Secretary of State from 1947 to 1949, he developed an economic program, the Marshall Plan, to help bring relief to war torn nations in Europe. The plan stipulated that the United States war prepared to assist Europe on certain terms. The European countries were to (1) Confer and Determine their needs on a continental basis; (2) show what resources they could put into a common pool for economic rebuilding; (3) stabilize their currencies; and (4) try to remove trade barriers so that goods could flow freely throughout the continent. With the assistance of the Marshall Plan, Western Europe began to recover from the ravages of war. Marshall's effort to include the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe in this grand design was rejected by Moscow. As Western Europe rebuilt, Europe was divided both economically and ideologically, and conflicting politics soon laid the ground for "The Cold War". When it became evident that the gap between Eastern and Western Europe would not be bridged, and that the Western European states feared for their safety, Marshall was one of the leaders who created the North Atlantic Treaty Organization which has ensured the security of the West. The establishment of NATO in 1949 achieved a balance of power in Europe that endured until the end of the Cold War.

The healthcare system is overburdened as the patients and disease complexities continuously increase out of proportion with the health care workers and providers. This bill was introduced in consideration with the dwindling number of health care workers. This bill is supposed to increase the number of workers in the healthcare system. This is through provision of financial support in form of scholarships to nursing students or those who want to enter any nursing program with scholarships. It also targets institutions like colleges that offer nursing and gives them grants. These funds are for expansion of programs that train nurses, to establish more facilities for nursing students and add the opportunities for nursing education at community based organizations. If the bill is enacted the Commissioner of Education, Health and President of Higher Education Services Corporation can identify shortages in New York and dispatch some trained nurses students under this program. He can also dispatch teachers to train nursing students at any facility that does not have enough staff. The bill is sponsored mainly by Scozzafava. Other co-sponsors are Giglio, Bacalles and Errigo. There are also other multisponsors who are involved. These include Mc Donough, Miller, Oaks, Quinn, Burling, Barclay, Kolb, Finch, Tedisco, Raia and Sayward. However like any other bill, there are those who oppose the bill. The union of workers is one of them. They feel it will be financial blackmailing to get people into a profession that they are not even interested in. The main aim of the bill is to provide funds and grants for nursing education It will support both public and private baccalaureate and graduate nursing education program. This bill is also supposed to increases training programs rather than offsetting existent expenditures. This funding will also sustain the nurse educators as they offer teaching services. This funding ensures that more residents are recruited into the nursing professional and they get retained in the profession. This bill also targets older nursing students who may be experiencing problems in getting loans due to debt obligations. This program will lead to draining funds of an organization. It needs to step up and increase ways of getting revenue. The individual organization has to strategize and work closely with the government so that the state can set aside some funds in its budget. If the state does not chip in, the involved sponsors have to chip in more to provide for this program. There are both positive and negative impacts. Residents may register for this program for personal purposes like getting financial income while they are not interested in providing the services. The number of student enrolled may be so many such that the organization may not be able to cater for all of them. Some residents may enter into a career that they are not interested in and not of their choice because of the free funds. This may make them to provide poor services wherever they will be attached. This may lead to erosion of the image of the health care organizations where they will work and consequently increase in mobility of the population. On the positive side, there will be more workers in the healthcare system therefore relieving the already overburdened workers. There will be a great improvement in service delivery. This will lead to reduced infant and adult mobility at hospitals due to lack of personalized care and attention. There will be more access to nursing education within institutions of higher learning in New York State. Due to increased workforce there will be more time created for those nurses who are working and so they can spend more time for their families. The job will be more interesting because nurses who are interested to further their careers have funds allotted for them. This will lead to provision of high quality services at hospitals and other health care organizations. This bill is not good because it will cause competition among other professionals and they may also be forced to make theirs with provisions like this bill. Other faculties like engineering can claim shortage and get organizations to sponsor them. If there is no enough funds that means the state has to chip in which means more expenditure of state resources and increase of tax that will have a big impact on the taxpayer. Many institutions will get facilities to provide for this nursing profession and this may lead to an overproduction of nurses. Residents may get into the nursing profession to get these scholarships as a way of income and therefore this will distract the original cause of the bill. This will lead to lowering of their wages stripping the existent benefits so that the healthcare system can be able to pay the new increased workforce. Many people who had loans may not pay back in time. This will make creditors not be willing to lend out money to institutions and other students. Some careers may have no new entries because they do not have this scholarship. This will result into diminishing of other careers and professionals in the society. There are many different species of schistosomes of which Schistosoma haematobium, S. mansoni, and S. japonicum clinically important parasites that infect humans. Schistosoma haematobium , commonly called urinary schistosomiasis, dwells in the vesical veins surrounding the urinary tract and therefore mammal host usually excretes its eggs in urine. It is found throughout most of Africa and in parts of Wester n Asia. Two species, S. mansoni and S. japonicum cause intestinal schistosomiasis. S. mansoni usually occupies the mesenteric veins around the large intestine,while S. japonicum usually occupies the mesenteric veins around the small intestine. Loker (2006) in his most recent study has put forward a hypothesis to address the foundattion of schistosome gonochorism. He says that first, schistosomes were derived from hermaphroditic ancestors; second, the potential for gonochorism appeared in the spirorchiids, most notably with Griphobilharzia; and third, 'true gonochorism' appeared when schistosomes invaded their endothermic hosts (birds and mammals). The evolution of separate genders was supposedly beneficial in providing optimal genetic diversity against the sophisticated immune system of warm-blooded vertebrate hosts. Loker (2006) also suggest that the segregation of two genders was determined by the s pecialization of each gender for a limited set of 'domestic task' and this was further backed by the gender associated gene expression profiling study by (Hoffman et al. 2002). It was concluded that males primarily looks after the transportation while females concentrate on egg production. In such an interaction schistosomes, once paired, the male and the female worms remains in this state for a long time and the mating is assumed to be monogamous (Reed 1990).
